Meet the Trustees
Assistant Treasurer - Mr Konstantinos Anastasakis
Konstantinos was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He is originally from Crete and Larissa. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Patra, Greece. He moved to the United Kingdom in 2015 for postgradute studies in Sustainability Design of Buildings. He has been working in the Building Industry doing Sustainability Design since he completed his postgraduate studies. He has been practising traditional Greek dancing since a young age. He has specialized in traditional Cretan choreography. He is an ambassador of the Cretan traditions and music.
Secretary - Mrs Kalliopi-Paraskevi Charitaki
Kalliopi-Paraskevi Charitaki was born in Athens and, since 2002, has lived in Leicester. She is a piano teacher and Early Years educator and owner of Armonia Music Tuition and Creative Space. Back in 2016, she created the Leicester Greek Dancing Group, and it was her love for Greek Culture and traditional dancing that led her steps to Ithaca.
Vice President - Mrs Athanasia Evlampia Davies
Athanasia (usually called Soula) was born and raised in Drama, a small town in Macedonia, Northern Greece. She came to England to study, initially pursuing A-levels at Exeter and then a first degree in Mathematics and Computational Science at Leeds University. She married a Welsh/English man, and they had three beautiful children. They lived in various parts of England before eventually settling in Solihull.
When her children moved on to university studies, Soula upgraded her skills for her return to the workplace. She obtained a Master's degree in Marketing Management and held various positions in the Service Industry while also teaching Modern Greek in Adult Education.
Soula then decided teaching was the route she wanted to take and obtained the necessary degree for that purpose, becoming a Mathematics teacher in Secondary Education.
She is now happily retired and a 'Yiayia' (grandmother) to four wonderful grandchildren.
Soula loves keeping fit and enjoys Greek folk dancing. Although she has settled happily in the UK, her heart remains full of love for her 'patrida' (homeland). She believes in keeping and promoting the Greek spirit alive and spends much time promoting Greek culture in all its forms. This has led her to participate in the formation of Ithaki from its early days, as well as holding positions in the running of the Greek Church Community in Coventry.
Chair - Professor Ioannis Karavias
Ioannis (Yiannis) Karavias is the Chair of Ithaca. Born in Athens, he studied mathematics and economics, obtaining his PhD in Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business in 2012. He has since worked in several research institutions in the UK where he currently is a Professor of Finance at the Brunel University London and a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham. Yiannis is dedicated to preserving and promoting Greek culture and heritage, using his expertise to support the organization's initiatives and engage the local community.
Head Social Media - Ms Ioanna-Kleopatra Kouremenou
Kleopatra was born in Athens where she has origins from. She studied Restoration & Renovation of Buildings in Patras, Interior Design in Athens and pursued her Masters degree in Interior Architecture in Nottingham. She has worked in the Restorations and Interior Architecture fields in Athens, Florence and Birmingham.
She loves learning new foreign languages as she believes it is a great way to connect with different people around the globe. In 2018, Kleopatra started volunteering in Ithaca's social media presence and events photography, by creating content, as she felt that was a great way for people to get to know Birmingham's Greek Cultural Society and its great initiatives in promoting the Greek culture.
Assistant Social Media - Ms Eirini Sakellari
Eirini was born and raised in Piraeus, Greece. She studied Law at the University of Athens and, upon graduation in 2019, moved to Birmingham to complete her postgraduate studies in International Commercial Law. After finishing her studies, Eirini began working as a Paralegal and is currently a Trainee Solicitor.
Eirini has always kept Greece close to her heart and spends as much time as possible with her loved ones there. Her strong belief in the power of community and her love for connecting with fellow Greeks led her to join Ithaca. Having been a lifelong dance enthusiast, Eirini recently joined Ithaca’s Traditional Greek Dancing team and has performed in live events representing the society.
As a Trustee and Volunteer, Eirini assists with Ithaca’s social media and creative projects, bringing her passion for photography and all things creative into her work. She’s all about connecting with people and keeping the Greek spirit alive in the community!
Class Organizer - Professor Emmanouela Terlektsi
Emmanouela is a Professor and lead of the teachers of children with Hearing Impairment programme at the University of Birmingham. She finished her undergraduate studies in Special Needs in Greece. She moved to the UK in 2003 to complete her postgraduate studies in special needs and counselling. She completed her PhD in 2010 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher for 6 years. Having lived in the UK for 15 years she felt the need to assist in the development of a society which would play an important role in connecting Greek and non-Greek people who admire the Greek civilisation. Despite being a UK resident, Emmanouela has always had Greece in her heart and her aim via this Greek society is to assist in the development of Greek culture and traditions.
Head Treasurer - Mr Antonios Theodoromanolakis
Antonios Theodoromanolakis was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He is originally from Crete and Olympia (Peloponnese region). He completed his undergraduate studies in Computer engineering in Greece in September 2007 and was granted his MSc in Embedded computer systems from Kingston university, London, in September 2010. He came to live permanently in the UK in April 2011 and till now he is working as an electrical engineer in the automotive sector. Antonios started getting involved and supporting Ithaca's activities since its foundation in April 2018 and joined Ithaca's board as a head treasurer in September 2022. He's takes particular interest in Greek dancing.
